Class & Group Research

The LRC is open Monday–Friday 10 a.m.–12 p.m. and 1 p.m.–5 p.m. Requests for group research outside these times will be decided on an individual basis.

The LRC can accommodate only 15 researchers at one time—larger groups must visit on different days or schedule staggered research times. Research groups may want to consider having the group visit the museum on the day of the research visit at discounted prices (see below).

Your request must be made at least four weeks ahead of the date you wish to visit.

How to Request a Group Research Session

Please include in your request the following information:

  • Name of the individual leading the group
  • Name of the organization
  • Name of the class, if applicable
  • Requested date of visit
  • Alternate day(s), if applicable
  • Approximate number of attendees
  • Description of research interest

Requests should be made by contacting the LRC. We will confirm the status of your group’s request within one week of your contact.

One week before your group is scheduled to arrive:
The person leading the group should notify the LRC about the resources that will be needed during the research session. We ask that you please read the Library and Research Center Policies before arriving. A maximum number of three books and one artist file may be requested per attendee. If individuals are working on different projects, please match materials with the desired attendee in your resource request. Additional resources can also be requested on-site; however, please keep in mind that advance resource requests allow us to be best prepared for your visit.  A Research Registration Form will  be emailed to you during this time for those group participants who have not yet researched at the LRC.

On the day of your visit:
Bring your group to the security desk at the NMWA. Inform the security personnel of your arrival, sign in, and proceed to the fourth floor. Bags and coats will be placed behind the reference desk during your visit. Every individual who has not yet researched at the LRC must fill out a Research Registration Form, which will be emailed to you the week prior to your visit.

If you wish to visit the museum as well as conduct research:
NMWA offers a discount to groups that are visiting for research purposes. Your group must spend at least half of your scheduled time in the  Library Research Center to qualify for these discounts:

  • High school classes: free
  • University/College classes: $2 per person
  • Other groups: $4 per person
  • Guided tour: $6 per person (free for high school classes)

Please note whether or not you wish to visit the museum in your original request to the LRC, and we will coordinate the tour with our Education Department.
