| Calling All Women Filmmakers: National Museum of Women in the Arts to Hold First Women's Film and Media Arts Festival September 25–30, 2007 | |

WASHINGTON—Women filmmakers and media artists will have five days to shine in D.C. when the National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA) presents its first-ever film and media arts festival. From Sept. 25, 2007 through Sept. 30, 2007 the NMWA 20th Anniversary Festival of Women's Film and Media Arts will highlight the talents of outstanding contemporary women filmmakers who are creating works that are both artistically innovative and socially relevant. NMWA Film Programmer K.J. Mohr explained, “For the past 20 years, the National Museum of Women in the Arts has been dedicated to celebrating the highest creative achievements of women artists. With this festival we can bring recognition to women who are creating provocative and innovative films and videos that exploit the media in exciting new ways.” The museum is currently accepting submissions encompassing film, video, media performance, and installations of all lengths and genres from around the world. The early bird submission deadline is May 4, 2007 and the late submission deadline is June 8, 2007. International entries are due June 8 and entry is free for work from other countries. Entry forms are available at www.nmwa.org or e-mail filmfestival@nmwa.org About the National Museum of Women in the ArtsThe National Museum of Women in the Arts, founded in 1981 and opened in 1987, is the only museum dedicated solely to celebrating the achievements of women in the visual, performing, and literary arts. Its permanent collection contains works by more than 800 artists including Mary Cassatt, Georgia O’Keeffe, Louise Bourgeois, Frida Kahlo and Lee Krasner. The Museum also conducts multidisciplinary programs for diverse audiences including a film, literary and music series, and maintains a Library and Research Center.
