26th Annual Spring Gala
Mar 27 2013
WASHINGTON, D.C.—On Friday, April 26, 2013, the National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA) will celebrate its 26th Annual Spring Gala, called Lighting the Way: Celebrating the Brilliance of Women in the Arts and chaired by Diane Casey-Landry and Sharon Lee Stark. Under the patronage of His Excellency The Ambassador of Denmark, the event is inspired by the museum’s special exhibition, A World Apart: Anna Ancher and the Skagen Art Colony. A World Apart celebrates artist Anna Ancher, who created some of the most avant-garde works to come out of the art colony in the remote, northern town of Skagen, Denmark.
The evening also acts as the culmination of NWMA’s yearlong 25th anniversary celebration. In 1987, NMWA opened its doors to honor women artists of the past, promote the accomplishments of women artists of the present, and assure the place of women artists in the future. Twenty-six years later, the museum remains the only museum in the world solely dedicated to this mission.
The annual black-tie Gala will begin with a viewing of the exhibition, a silent auction and cocktails in the galleries, followed by dinner and dancing to the music of Fresh Air in the elegant Great Hall. 2013 Gala auction facilitators include: Charo Abrams, Betty Baird, Charlotte Cameron, Piper-Lynne Larson, Frances Usher.
