The Young Professional's Forum of the National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA)
is intended as a forum to bring together young female professionals in the D.C.
metro area from the ages of 21 through 30 to create an opportunity for networking,
socializing, and cultural enrichment, in addition to supporting the museum's
mission of bringing attention to women in all areas of the arts. It is a small
branch of the museum's Business and Professional Women's Council, and has a
great deal of involvement with that group.
Mission:
As women become more of a presence in the workforce, they face unique challenges as well as unique opportunities. At the Forum we wish to support young professional women and encourage involvement in the arts through two main activities. The Mentoring Series involves talks by women who have been successful in their particular field. These women will offer valuable insight into their careers as they discuss their personal experiences within the professional realm. Past mentors have included women in the fields of museum management, finance, psychology, and stock brokerage. Additionally, we offer the Art Series which offers our members exposure to various aspects of the art world, including behind-the-scenes gallery tours, invitations to exhibition openings, and jobs within the gallery and museum field. We also have frequent cocktail hours at various venues around the city to give us a chance to get to know one another and try out new places within the District.
