Close Encounters: Rachel Ruysch and Janet Forrester Ngala

While our building is currently closed for renovation, NMWA continues to offer dynamic programs to keep you connected to the museum and our collection. This fall join Deborah Gaston, NMWA’s director of education and interpretation, for four talks that ask, “What questions, conversations, and viewpoints surface when the art historical past meets the present?”

This week’s talk considers artists who drew inspiration from the natural world, along with their historical and cultural contexts. We will examine Rachel Ruysch, Roses, Convolvulus, Poppies, and Other Flowers in an Urn on a Stone Ledge (ca. late 1680s) and Janet Forrester Ngala, Milky Way Dreaming (1998).
