Event Description

About the Event

Firsthand Experience workshops bring contemporary artists together with learners ages 13 and older for hands-on programs that combine making, conversations, and discovery.

In this session, learn about the history, science, and art behind the camera-less photography technique of cyanotypes. Create your own with the instruction and encouragement of artist Natalie Cheung.

About the Artist Instructor:

Cheung is a visual artist with a focus on camera-less photography. Her practice contemplates the relevance of historical darkroom processes as she uses them to create contemporary artworks in an age of digital dominance. Cheung received her MFA in photography from Temple University’s Tyler School of Art and Architecture in Philadelphia and her BFA in photography from the Corcoran College of Art and Design in Washington, DC. Her work has been featured on PetaPixel and in Interlocutor magazine. Her artwork is represented in numerous private and public art collections, including the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; the British Council; and the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities. Cheung is an instructor at George Washington University and is represented by Morton Fine Art in Washington, DC.
