AUG 14 Gallery Talk: Bice Lazzari

Looking for some artistic and intellectual nourishment during your lunch break?

This summer, join NMWA staff members for short gallery discussions that explore the highlights of our diverse summer exhibitions of work by Faith Ringgold, Audrey Niffenegger, and Bice Lazzari.

This week, Curatorial Assistant Stephanie Midon discusses selections from Bice Lazzari: Signature Line. Get a curator’s perspective of one of Italy’s most revered modern artists, Bice Lazzari.

The exhibition presents a selection of 25 paintings and drawings by Bice Lazzari. As part of 2013 Year of Italian Culture in the United States, an initiative organized by Italy’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of Italy, Washington, D.C., this exhibition showcases Lazzari’s breadth and marks her as one of the most innovative abstract painters of the 20th century. Reflecting her lifelong passion for music, the lines and forms in Lazzari’s compositions create rhythms that interact and make her works come alive, akin to musical notes.
