Concert: German Women's Jazz Orchestra

Wagner in America

Opera meets jazz at this exciting performance at NMWA.

The German Women’s Jazz Orchestra, led by Angelika Niescier, performs a new musical arrangement. Jazz musician, band leader, and composer Niescier was named by Arte Culture as “one of the most exciting voices in German jazz” and has received numerous prestigious awards.

Niescier takes inspiration from Kundry, one of the most fascinating female characters from Richard Wagner’s opera, Parsifal. Using the idioms of contemporary jazz, Niescier has designed the musical commentary to convey an abstract form of Wagner’s original themes.

Wagner’s vocals stay nearly the same but are accompanied by an entirely new jazz sound. This performance is inspired by Wagner’s original music and interpreted by mezzo-soprano Magdalena Wór.

After the performance, join us for a wine and cheese reception.
