Join us for FRESH TALK with award-winning poets Elizabeth Acevedo, Nikki Giovanni, and Emi Mahmoud

Poets have long been society’s truth-tellers and witnesses, using language to illuminate our trials, histories, and hopes. Join us for a night of spoken word performance and intergenerational conversation led by luminary Nikki Giovanni, on cultural heritage, womanhood, and how poetry can help us imagine—and take action towards—a better future.

Followed by Catalyst, a cocktail hour with a topic and a twist. Poets will be available for book signing during this time.

SOLD OUT. Program will be live-streamed at

Duende District is a collaborative pop-up bookstore by and for people of color—where all are welcome. As our bookselling partner, Duende District will be selling copies of our poets’ books and hosting the book signing during Catalyst cocktail hour.

The DC Public Library will highlight its role as the “people’s university” for the District of Columbia, joining us to spread word about People's University: A year of arts, activism and education commemorating the 50th anniversary of the events of 1968.

FRESH TALK is presented by the museum’s Women, Arts, and Social Change public program initiative.
