JULY 16 Workshop: Firsthand Experience

Become an insta-photographer!

Become a savvy mobile photographer in this hands-on workshop as guest artist Laura Hoffman introduces app-based photography to a multigenerational audience. Explore the special exhibition She Who Tells a Story: Women Photographers from Iran and the Arab World and learn the ins and outs of photography without buying expensive camera equipment. Tap into your creative side using handheld devices and leave with a “studio to go,” a photo accessory kit for smartphones or tablets.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own smartphone or tablet. A limited number of museum handheld devices are available for use during the workshop. Designed for ages 13 and up.

Laura Hoffman is the manager of K–12 digital and educator initiatives at The Phillips Collection, designing meaningful digital learning opportunities and onsite programs for educators. She previously managed digital engagement at NMWA, developing mobile offerings for visitors, overseeing social media, and photographing programs. Holding both an M.A. in museum education from the George Washington University and a B.A. in art from Connecticut College, she uses design to craft accessible museum resources and experiences.
