Meet the Artists

Meet three local artists and learn about their work and process.

Sponsored by the Women's Committee of the National Museum of Women in the Arts, this program features presentations by three local artists: Janis Goodman, Mira Hecht, and Barbara Liotta.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS:

Janis Goodman is a D.C.-based visual artist and Professor of Fine Arts at the Corcoran School of Arts & Design. Her paintings explore the relationship between depictions of the natural world and of the imagined and remembered one. Her study of the natural world involves looking into formal entomological species and botanical categories.

Mira Hecht is a D.C.-based artist. She holds a B.A. from American University and an M.F.A. in painting from the San Francisco Art Institute. Her abstract paintings have been shown locally and nationally, and her work has been selected for public collections such as Microsoft, PriceWaterhouse Coopers, and Citibank.

Barbara Liotta is a sculptor who works primarily in suspended shattered stone. Her work has been exhibited by the Phillips Collection, the Katzen Museum at American University, the Art Museum of the Americas, the Museum of the Americas, the World Bank, the Cafritz Center for the Arts, and many other venues.
