Overview

This is a letter from Ella Wolfe (1896 to 2000) to Cristina Kahlo y Calderón (1908 to 1964). Wolfe, a Ukrainian-American political activist and educator, was part of Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera's circle of friends. She and her husband Bertram Wolfe were involved in the creation of the American Communist Party in 1919. Cristina Kahlo y Calderón was the younger sister of Frida Kahlo. Frida painted a portrait of Cristina, titled Portrait of Cristina, My Sister, and Diego Rivera also portrayed Cristina in his work and with whom had an affair.
