This is a letter from Ella Wolfe (1896 to 2000) to Frida Kahlo. Wolfe, a Ukrainian-American political activist and educator, was part of Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera's circle of friends. She and her husband Bertram Wolfe were involved in the creation of the American Communist Party in 1919.

Querida niña –

Recibi tu carta graciosa – tan graciosa
como tú, y hable por teléfono tantas veces a tu hotel
que la señorita que contesta ya me conoce – pero hasta
ayer me decia que ustedes todavia no habian regresado
de Filadelfia. Les debe gustar mucho nuestro “Sleepy
City”.

Tenemos ansias de verlos. ¿Cuando regresan?
Tan pronto como – no dejas de hablarme por teléfono.
Si estarán aquí para el fin de la semana ¿les será
conveniente cenar con nosotros el viernes de ésta?
Ojala que sí. Con un beso para ti y un abrazo para
tu Diego – y de Bert saludos muy cariñosos, queda suya
