Cheers, Artemisia Gentileschi!
Join staff of the National Museum of Women in the Arts for a virtual happy hour to celebrate the life and work of Artemisia Gentileschi! We will make a specialty cocktail in her honor, share artworks and stories, and discuss all things Artemisia.
Registration is required. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about how to join.
Special Guest:
Andra ‘AJ’ Johnson will be teaching us how to make a specially created cocktail inspired by Artemisia Gentileschi. Johnson has been part of the DMV restaurant scene for years and currently serves as the Bar Director for the Serenata/Zumo cocktail bar in La Cosecha. She is a co-founder of DMV Black Restaurant Week and her forthcoming book, White Plates, Black Faces, tells the stories of people of color in the restaurant industry.
Featured Cocktail: If It Ain’t Baroque, Don’t Fix It
Prepare for the event by making sure you’re ready to create the specialty cocktail inspired by Artemisia Gentileschi.
Ingredients for Cocktail:
- 1 oz Malfy Gin con Arancia
- 0.75 oz Averna Amaro
- 1 oz chilled honey-cinnamon milk
- grated nutmeg
- 1 orange peel for garnish
Ingredients for Mocktail:
- 2 oz cold brew or chilled espresso
- 1 oz chilled honey-cinnamon milk
- grated nutmeg
- 1 orange peel for garnish
Preferred Glassware: rocks glass
Additional Tools: bar spoon, ice, jigger, peeler for garnish, paring knife, microplane to grate nutmeg (unless nutmeg is already ground)
To make honey-cinnamon milk:
- 1 cup milk, cream, or dairy substitute
- 1.5 teaspoons honey
- 1 cinnamon stick
- pinch of ground allspice
- pinch ground nutmeg
In a small saucepan, combine the milk, cinnamon stick, nutmeg, and allspice. Cook and stir over medium heat until heated through, then whisk in honey. Strain off spices and cinnamon with a fine strainer. Put in a non-reactive cooler and let chill all the way through before use.
