Event Description

Celebrate Florida artists with the Gadsden Art Center and Museum!

Join staff of the National Museum of Women in the Arts for a virtual happy hour to learn more about Florida artists in the Gadsden Arts Center & Museum and NMWA Permanent Collections. We will make a specialty cocktail in honor of the artists’ work, share artworks and stories, and take a deeper look at women artists in Florida: Beth Appleton, Marisa Tellería-DíezAlyne HarrisMildred Thompson, and Ruby C. Williams. 

Registration is required. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about how to join.

Special Guest:

Andra ‘AJ’ Johnson will be teaching us how to make a specially created cocktail inspired by Judith Leyster. Johnson has been part of the DMV restaurant scene for years and currently serves as the Bar Director for the Serenata/Zumo cocktail bar in La Cosecha. She is a co-founder of DMV Black Restaurant Week and her forthcoming book, White Plates, Black Faces, tells the stories of people of color in the restaurant industry.

Featured Cocktail: Silver Springs

Get ready for the event by preparing to create the specialty cocktail inspired by Florida women artists.

Ingredients for Cocktail:

  • 1.5 oz white rum of your choice
  • 0.5 oz coconut rum of your choice
  • 1.5 oz blue Curaçao
  • 1.5 oz cinnamon simple syrup
  • 1 oz passionfruit nectar or juice
  • 0.5 oz orange juice
  • 0.25 oz lime
  • 1 whole orange
  • 1 whole grapefruit
  • 1 whole lemon
  • 1 strawberry
  • Ice

Tools: blender, paring knife, peeler, cutting board, drinking straw, garnish skewer (optional)

Glassware: highballl or collins glass

To make the cinnamon simple syrup: Put a 1:1 ratio of water and sugar steeped with cinnamon sticks on the stove on low-medium heat for 15-20 minutes. Do not let boil.
