Internship Application Procedures

Read this section carefully before applying. Applications that do not follow this procedure will not be processed or considered. You must submit your application via the electronic form, with all uploaded documents in PDF format only.

Your internship application must consist of a cover letter, resume, two letters of recommendation, transcript, and a writing sample. Please submit all materials in English or provide translations.

Your cover letter must state clearly:

  • The name of the internship for which you are applying, including if you are interested in an endowed internship
  • How your skills/experience qualify you for the position in question, according to the posted description
  • How the internship in question fits into your academic and career goals
  • Your personal interests

Your resume must include:

  • Your education and employment history
  • Your school, permanent address, current email address, and phone number

Your two letters of recommendation must:

  • Be from a former or current employer, professor, or advisor
  • Be on letterhead of the company or school
  • Be signed by the recommender 
  • If your recommender would prefer to submit letters directly, she or he may send them by email to or by mail:

Your transcript:

  • May be an unofficial electronic or scanned version

Your writing sample:

  • Must be one to two pages in length
  • Can be an excerpt from a longer paper

Important Information:

  • Candidates may apply for up to three internships per season
  • A different application, cover letter, and resume document is required for each position
  • Submissions will be acknowledged via an email receipt by NMWA
