A black and white surrealist illustration. The illustration depicts a stately manor house in the background with many stylized figures on the lawn in front of the house. One figure stands naked in a pond while another reaches for them from the shore. A pair of figures in long dresses walk down the path from the house behind a pair of musicians in tuxedos playing a tuba and a trumpet. In the foreground a man in a morning suit runs from the house with his hands in the air. Beside him a cat-like animal wearing a long black coat stands on its hind legs holding a tiered wedding cake. To the right of the cat is a figure in a short white dress looking out at the viewer.

Event Description

NMWA X Micaela Cianci

This monthly talk show, a spin-off of the 2021 GLAMi award-winning series BMA x NMWA, connects viewers to NMWA and its mission to champion women artists. Join us as hosts from the museum interview special guests, including artists, educators and curators; consider topics relevant to our world; and offer insight into collaborations that the museum is fostering while its building is closed for renovation.

On this episode, Virginia Treanor, NMWA associate curator, and Adrienne L. Gayoso, senior educator, welcome UK-based artist and Museum Shop collaborator Micaela Cianci. Cianci will discuss her product partnership with the shop, through which she created original illustrations inspired by the museum’s mission and collection. Cianci will also share more about her favorite women artists, including Surrealist Leonora Carrington (1917–2011).
Since 2016, NMWA’s Museum Shop has partnered with more than 20 women artists and women-owned businesses to create products, programs and installations that celebrate the museum’s mission. Cianci’s collaboration is second in a line of #5WomenArtists-inspired products created exclusively for NMWA.
