In this life-size sculpture, a horse stands facing left with its neck and head bent down. The horse appears to be made of many sticks of driftwood that are different shades of gray, different textures, and different lengths, all coming together to form a sculpture that evokes a horse’s movement.
This event is sold out. Look slowly at selected artworks in the galleries and join a conversation to discuss the experience.

Event Description

About the Event

Join a movement! Slow Art Day is an international event encouraging people of all ages to visit community art spaces and to look at art slowly.

Participate in Slow Art Day 2024 to:

  • Explore NMWA’s renovated galleries
  • Feed your soul
  • Spark your creativity
  • Connect with other art lovers
  • Discover and connect with new artworks
  • Name five women artists

How It Works:

Slow Art Day invites you to invest time looking closely at a limited number of artworks. NMWA will help with this process by providing a small selection of works to consider along with slow-looking prompts to help you get started. You are encouraged to examine at least five works of art from the options provided for 10 minutes each. You can do this alone or with loved ones.

Then, join an in-person conversation to connect with other art lovers, discuss their experience of slow looking, and learn more about the selected artworks. A NMWA educator will facilitate this conversation.

Questions? Email education@nmwa.org.
