Join staff of the National Museum of Women in the Arts for a virtual happy hour to celebrate surrealist women artists! AJ Johnson, partner and bar director of Serenata, demonstrates how to make a specialty cocktail in the artists’ honor as we share artworks and stories and explore the museum’s collection and archives.

Featured Cocktail: Goddesses
Prepare for the event by making sure you’re ready to create the specialty cocktail, named after Madame Yevonde’s “Goddesses Portraits.”
Ingredients for Cocktail:
- 1.5 oz Hendrick’s Gin
- 0.5 oz Dolin Blanc
- 0.25 oz Ouzo or Sambuca
- 0.25 oz lemon
- 0.25 oz honey
- 0.75 oz cinnamon-sage simple syrup
- Top with 1.5-2 oz tonic water
- 1 whole orange for garnish
Preferred Glassware: highball or collins glass
Additional Tools: shaker tine, ice, strainer, paring knife, fruit peeler, cutting board
Cinnamon-Sage Simple Syrup Recipe:
Makes about 1 quart; syrup will last 3-4 weeks.
- Add equal parts sugar and water (32 oz each) to a medium saucepan on low heat and stir to incorporate. Do not let boil.
- Add 6-7 cinnamon sticks and about a 1 cup sage leaves, and raise temperature to medium heat. Bring mixture to a boil.
- Once mixture is boiling, lower temperature and let simmer for 12-15 minutes.
- Take the mixture off the heat and strain off cinnamon sticks and sage. Let cool and put in nonreactive container. Keep refrigerated.
