Feb. 20 ’39

Dear Frieda, Is your ear ringing? It’s me writing you!
I wonder if you are still in Paris? Only yesterday I
called up Mary Sklar to have your address to write you
because I lost the one you gave me. I have tried to
follow your trip ever since you left last month, wondering
how you would like France and whether the real Paris
would be there for you to meet right away or whether
it would be a few weeks before it would “grow” on you.
When I first went there I was antagonistic to it.
Only I had 4 years to get to know it while you have
only a few weeks! I hope you have met the sort of
guys who will show you the real stuff — the little restaurants
and the Cirque Medrano. Mother told me after you left
that our friends the Flegs had gone off to the South for
winter — but I hope you met Chana Orloff anyway.

Please write me just a wee wee little postcard
and let me know how you are and whether you are having
fund and how your show has succeeded, how long you are
going to stay and when you are coming home? If you
won’t write to me, at least write to your own God child
Geddo! He is coming along splendidly — stands up in his
bed holding the sides — He says Mama, Baba, and Anana
and makes plenty of “Bronx cheers” with his mouth — (a
sort of noisy “pedo” including spit bubbles and spray.)
He has a large bed now and doesn’t know how to sleep
in it. He looks so small in it I have to look for him
every time I enter his room: — He can suck the toe of his
left or right foot with great ease

We have improved our movies 100 per cent by
reediting them on a large roll and making crazy
titles for them. For instance the movie with you
in it is called “A Night in Brooklyn” or “A Rose
is a Rose is a Rosenblum.”

Steve is working hard. He got another raise!
We hope he will keep his job even after the Fair opens
in May. As for me I just received a letter from the
architect Lescaze who wants me to paint a figure for
The Swiss Pavilion, after seeing photos of my work. It
is not yet a sure job but you can imagine how excited
I am to if I get even a small job like that. It won’t
take me more than 10 days to do during which time I
will have someone stay with Geddo during the day. By
then I won’t be nursing the baby any more as I am
going to start weaning him next week.

Suzy is giving a lot of concerts. I have not seen
her or her baby for a very long time as either one of
them has a cold and live too far away from the docks.

My Pa and Ma are still here. I don’t see them
very often either as they are busy seeing people. Mother
would like to come down here so often but has to be with
Father all the time so she can sweared at when Father is
cross! Oi, Oi, Oi.

Do you hear from Diego or is that guy as crazy
as ever with correspondence? I hope you have good
friends in Paris. I am thinking of you there all the
time and somehow I am seeing a very lonely little girl
in a long dress walking all by herself on that stinky
Rue de la Boetie. You wont be alone in the Louvre when
you go in the room with the French Primitives and the
Italian Primitives!
