Internship Overview

The Digital Engagement Intern will work with NMWA staff to support digital initiatives. The Digital Engagement Department oversees the museum’s website and online initiatives, including the museum’s social media, online exhibitions, the Google Art Project, and in-gallery interactives. This internship is appropriate for students seeking to gain experience in digital content creation and engaging museum audiences online. 

Commitment

20–30 hours per week

Responsibilities

  • Research national and international exhibitions and events featuring women artists for the website’s “In Your Region” page
  • Assist Digital Engagement staff to draft and schedule social media content including drafting text and selecting images 
  • Provide support for the museum’s ongoing #5WomenArtists campaign, including, but not limited to, content creation, research, and participant outreach 
  • Use software like Photoshop or online platforms like Canva or Venngage to create social graphics and shareable infographics about women in the arts 
  • Propose, research, and draft content for online exhibitions highlighting NMWA artworks and artists 
  • Help secure image rights for collection works
  • Research current best practices for museum social media
  • Survey institutional web pages for inconsistencies
  • Draft alt text to support ongoing web accessibility efforts  

Preferred Skills & Competencies

  • Strong organizational and computer skills
  • Familiarity with major social media platforms Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Canva, and/or Adobe Creative Cloud a plus 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Completed sophomore year of college by the internship start date
  • Pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in art history, art education, museum education, museum studies, studio art, or related field
