This March, in celebration of Women’s History Month, NMWA is excited to launch a new social media campaign: Random Acts of Art Equity. This year marks the 10th anniversary of #5WomenArtists, which raises awareness of gender inequities in the art world. Random Acts of Art Equity is a movement driven by action, inviting people to take part in small but meaningful acts that will help shift the discourse around women and nonbinary artists.

This Women’s History Month, we challenge you to commit to one action each day of the month. Take a look at our daily Random Acts of Art Equity prompts, offering simple and fun ways to participate:
- March 1: Attend Free Community Day: Women’s History Month Kickoff and take part in the #5WomenArtists wheat-pasting activity.
- March 2: Become a new member at NMWA! Post a picture with your member sticker and temporary card and tag us @WomenInTheArts.
- March 3: Pick your favorite artwork from our collection and make it your phone wallpaper. Need inspiration? Check out works by Helen Frankenthaler, Alma Woodsey Thomas, and Pacita Abad.
- March 4: Join the virtual members-only program NMWA Advocates: Righting the Balance.
- March 5: Learn five facts about an artist new to you by exploring our 5 Fast Facts archive.
- March 6: Attend NMWA Unframed: Aluminate the Night and dance the night away. Not local? Throw a dance party and ask everyone to dress as their favorite woman artist.
- March 7: Participate in NMWA’s Firsthand Experience: Fiber program or take a woman-led art-making workshop near you.
- March 8: Celebrate International Women’s Day at NMWA by attending a film screening about Tamara de Lempicka, or plan a movie night featuring a film about another woman or nonbinary artist.
- March 9: Discover the works of Sonya Clark in this online exhibition, and check out our other virtual exhibitions.
- March 10: Happy birthday, Eva Hesse! Celebrate the artist by learning more about her work at NMWA.
- March 11: Pick an artist from NMWA’s collection to inspire an art-making night with friends. Need inspiration? Re-create the abstract paintings of Emily Kame Kngwarreye or the intricate landscapes of Grandma Moses.
- March 12: Visit Ruth Orkin: Women on the Move at NMWA or find an exhibition featuring a woman or nonbinary artist in your area.
- March 13: Send a postcard or card to friends and family made by women and nonbinary artists.
- March 14: Join NMWA educators at the National Building Museum for an activity inspired by the exhibition Building Stories.
- March 15: Buy prints or fine art by women from NMWA’s Museum Shop or your local gallery.
- March 16: Read a letter from the Frida Kahlo Papers, such as this letter from the artist’s close friend Lucienne Bloch.
- March 17: Celebrate Agnes Martin’s birthday by learning more about the artist’s life and her artwork at NMWA.
- March 18: Join us for NMWA Nights, featuring a museum-wide bingo activity and pop-up performances by women and nonbinary playwrights.
- March 19: Learn more about five contemporary poets inspired by artists whose works are in our collection.
- March 20: Follow five women and nonbinary artists new to you on social media by exploring hashtags such as #5WomenArtists and #WomenInTheArts.
- March 21: Attend our special Tour: NMWA en Français or a talk at a museum in your area featuring women or nonbinary artists.
- March 22: Participate in our annual Wikipedia Edit-a-thon, which this year focuses on women photojournalists.
- March 23: Post a selfie with an artwork by a woman or nonbinary artist and use the hashtag #ArtEquity so we can reshare!
- March 24: Explore NMWA’s collection on Google Arts & Culture, including this roundup of five trailblazing women who changed the art world forever.
- March 25: Listen to NMWA’s collection audio guide, featuring insights from the museum’s curators and educators.
- March 26: Throw a women-artist-themed dinner party and cook from The Photographer’s Cookbook, Cook Korean!, or another cookbook inspired by women or nonbinary artists.
- March 27: Come to the Well-Read Black Girl Festival at NMWA or participate in a virtual Art Chat with NMWA educators from your home.
- March 28: Buy NMWA’s collection highlights catalogue or purchase an exhibition catalogue featuring a woman artist from a museum near you.
- March 29: Explore our magazine archive, where you can learn about NMWA’s collection of contemporary sculpture, historical quilts, Alma Woodsey Thomas conservation research, and more.
- March 30: Take a photo of your favorite artwork in our new exhibition Making Their Mark: Works from the Shah Garg Collection, post in on social media, and tag us @WomenInTheArts!
- March 31: Are you a woman or nonbinary artist? Share your recent work on social media and use the hashtag #ArtEquity.
